Catholic schools make AP honor roll
The Catholic schools of Arkansas, as a school district, have been named to the College Board’s eighth annual AP District Honor Roll. The honor roll recognizes 447 school districts in the United States and Canada that have increased access to Advanced Placement (AP) coursework while maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP exams. There are 27 Catholic schools in the Diocese of Little Rock, which enroll 6,706 students in preschool, elementary and middle school, junior high and high school. ... More
Seminarians take key steps to priesthood
Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will celebrate the Installation to Lector, Acolyte and Candidacy Mass at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Little Rock on Sunday, Dec. 17. During this Mass, eight Diocese of Little Rock seminarians will be recognized for taking these steps toward ordination to the priesthood. All are invited to attend. The admission to candidacy will be conferred on Jon Miskin who has demonstrated the necessary qualifications for ordination. Dc. Nelson Rubio to be ordained Dec. 16
Bishop Anthony B. Taylor will ordain Deacon Nelson Rubio to the priesthood at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16 at the Cathedral of St. Andrew in Little Rock. A reception will follow the Mass in McDonald Hall. The night before, on Friday, Dec. 15, a holy hour to pray for him and for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Cathedral. The annual Retirement Fund for Religious collection will be held Dec. 2-3 in the Diocese of Little Rock. Coordinated by the National Religious Retirement Office (NRRO), the appeal benefits 32,000 elderly Catholic sisters, brothers and religious order priests whose religious congregations lack adequate retirement funding. Last year, the Diocese of Little Rock contributed $154,723 to the collection. Catholic Charities help after 2017 disasters
After years of having no significant hurricanes, storms came one after another causing extraordinary damage in 2017. Through it all, Catholic Charities organizations were on the scene to provide assistance and help with long-term recovery. The spring floods in Arkansas were the prelude. Catholic Charities of Arkansas established a case management office in Pocahontas as a base of operations. This office, staffed by Faye Spurlock, worked with long-term issues involving flood survivors and continues to help restore people to their new normal even to this day. ... More
