Bishop Anthony B. Taylor delivered the following letter to the Arkansas delegation in Washington, Feb. 28, to ask them to support “reasonable, life-saving regulations on firearms” in response to the Feb. 14 school shooting in Parkland, Florida, and other mass shootings. The 68th annual Diocese of Little Rock Catholic Youth Convention will be held April 6-8 at Robinson Center and the DoubleTree Hotel in Little Rock. This year's keynote presentation will be provided by Apex Ministries with an additional special session presented by Nun and Nunner. This year's theme is: "Faith Conquers." Normally held over Mother's Day weekend in May, this year the conference was moved to April. It is open to high school youth in grades 9-12. The cost is $125 plus hotel fee per person. Arkansas Catholic is holding a contest to choose a photo for the cover of the 2019 Catholic Diocese of Little Rock Directory. Any professional or amateur photographer in Arkansas can enter their photo of the inside or outside of a Catholic church or institution in the diocese. March 16 is the deadline to enter the contest. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor is urging all Catholics to participate in the National Catholic Call-in Day for the Protection of Dreamers on Monday, Feb. 26. The U.S. Senate on Feb. 15 failed to pass three separate pieces of legislation that would have given a path to citizenship to 1.8 million undocumented immigrants, commonly called Dreamers. Please call Arkansas' U.S. Senators Tom Cotton and John Boozman, and your district's U.S. house representative to urge them to pass legislation to protect Dreamers from deportation. Because of declining enrollment, Little Rock Theology Institute will close in June after 21 years of teaching Scripture, theology and philosophy to lay Catholics. This three-year academic program for adults in the Diocese of Little Rock has offered students an opportunity for personal enrichment, catechist certification and to earn a bachelor's degree in theology. Deepen your friendship with the Lord in sacred stillness and quiet through the Ignatian Silent Directed Retreat March 15-18 at St. John Catholic Center in Little Rock. This Lenten faith formation program for adults will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday and end on Sunday at noon. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor released the following letter, which was sent, Feb. 2, 2018, to Arkansas’ senators and representatives in Washington to ask them to pass legislation to protect DACA recipients. The bishop is also encouraging all Catholics to write or call the U.S. senators and their representative to vote in favor of a “clean” DACA bill. “I am writing to urge you to pass a clean Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) bill in February that will include a path to citizenship.
