The Pontifical Good Friday Collection is an annual collection taken up in all parishes in the worldwide. Give at your parish or donate online. It is taken up to help provide for the upkeep of holy sites and support the pastoral, charitable, educational and social works of Christians in the Holy Land. These funds support Catholic schools, parishes and religious education in the Holy Land. The collection also preserves the shrines for pilgrims and provides assistance, including housing and food, for the poor and needy. According to the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America in Washington, D.C., "Christians there rely heavily on the help that comes to them from this worldwide collection. ... The Franciscans of the Custody of the Holy Land have the unique responsibility to care for the holy places as well for the “living stones,” the Christians living there. It is vital that we support Christians living in the Holy Land, in order to maintain a Christian presence in the very land made holy by the life, death and Resurrection of Jesus."
